We practice truthfulness internally (investigating our thoughts, feelings and beliefs) and externally (we notice the impulses and refine the intentions that give rise to our speech and actions). The sun of truthfulness dawns in a curious mind and rises and is refined by the qualities of investigation and compassionate self-discipline.
The focus for Days 21-30 of the 100 Days of Care is the ‘far-reaching’ attitude of Truthfulness (Sacca Parami).
Truthfulness is an integral part of the path of awakening. It applies both to our behaviour, meaning the way we act and speak in the world, and it is eventually experienced as a view or perception. As we remove confusion from the mind through training in being truthful, we experience truth with increasing clarity — the quality of being honest eventually develops into the clarity of wisdom.
As far as training the mind and our behaviour – the practice of truthfulness is approached both from the point of view of what is to be practiced and what is to be abandoned. It is practiced internally (with thoughts) and externally (with our speech and actions).
These instructions for practice were given at Stream Yoga + Meditation on October 16, 2024.
